Chilly weather means that it's time to savor the hot bowls of soup that you can find in Houston! Here are three choices that I recommend to warm you up.
1) Pho Saigon - PhoThere is nothing as satisfying as a hot bowl of pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) on a cold day. Small bowls are about $5 and large bowls are about $6. I personally like #13 on the menu, Pho Tai Nam, which has eye round steak that cooks in the broth and well-done flank as the protein. Pho Saigon has six locations in Houston, but only one of them lie inside the loop (Midtown on Milam St). Website |
2) Huynh - Bun Bo HueAnother Vietnamese favorite, Bun Bo Hue (a type of Vietnamese noodle soup) is known to be one of the best dishes at this restaurant. This dish hits all the taste buds: it's salty, sour, sweet, salty, and spicy all at one time with its broth of spices and lemongrass. It is $7.95 for a small bowl and $9.50 for a large bowl. Squeeze a bunch of lime juice into your bowl to balance out the spiciness and add the bean sprouts and cabbage for texture. Website |
3) Kata Robata - RamenYou may think back to your college days of Instant Ramen when you think of this dish (Japanese Noodle Soup), but don't let that fool you. This noodle soup has a savory broth with a bunch of toppings: sliced pork belly, soft boiled egg, wakame, green onions, and ginger. The bowls are a little pricey ($13-15) but are definitely worth it. The one pictured is the traditional one, but the others are the Duck Dumpling Shoyu Ramen & the Spicy Soy Ramen (Upper Kirby on Kirby Dr.). Website |
